4 Baker’s Selection Puff Mince Pies, by Asda

Pie number 28. I’ve still not reviewed any pies by Morrison’s or other places I have less access to. If anyone is in Basingstoke, it would be lovely to review their mince pies. My cousin, Rob posted me a box last year 🙂

Puff pastry pies once more. These have to compete with the likes of the following pies:

Sainsbury’s 4 Puff Pastry Mince Pies , 4 Bakery Puff Pastry Mince Pies, by Tesco and

Christmas 6 Puff Pastry Mince Pies, by M&S

At 75p, they are very well priced considering their size; they have a decent rise and you get quite a lot in each four pack. The packaging isn’t particularly beautiful although the box has some form of identity with a raised ASDA log on the top. Each pie is well sugared with a decent amount of granulated goodness on each pie top.

My journey through the buttery layers isn’t the most successful as I discover very little mincemeat. Not a problem, the distribution could be similar to that of a jam doughnut where you can bite through a lot of product without finding the sweet fruity prize.

The pastry seem drier than other puff pastry I’ve reviewed but the juicy, moist mincemeat has a zesty orange taste which attempts to makes up for this.

There was a good amount of mincemeat, but not enough for the dark times where you and your mouth are alone without saliva or mincemeat and need to chew through the pastry. Tasty mincemeat, but slightly lacking in volume.

7/10
